On a sad note, we need to note the passing of two former musicians of DDMM.
Jagger Laycock played with the side from the original days as Staploe Hundred, and continued on into the mid 1980s with us. He finally made his home in Herefordshire, where he died at the grand old age of 97.
Roy Eccles joined the side in the 1980s and continued playing for us until about 1999, when he sold up his B&B in Fordham and moved with the family down to the Southampton area. There he played for King John's MM. He is remembered as a fabulous musician, and as a really "nice bloke' who helped everyone out, especially new musicians. There is a remarkable fount of stories about him. He was 82.
The Devil's Dyke Morris Men come from the area of Newmarket in West Suffolk. You are likely to find us dancing in the area very approximately from north-east of Cambridge up to Newmarket, and then south from Newmarket nearly to Haverhill, and south-west of Cambridge, down to just north-east of Royston. Our practice and dance-out night is Thursday.
Do you want to do the Morris? Morris dancing has been in the press a lot in the past few years; how about joining in? The 2014-2015 practice season will end at the end of April, and the next practices will start at the beginning of October 2015. Come and watch or join us—see what fun the Morris can be.
