| DDMM have for many years now danced at Reach Fair on the May Day Bank Holiday. We begin at Commercial End, outside the former Royal Oak pub, where we used to retire after practice until the pub was closed by Greene King in about 1989 and turned into a dwelling. A tradition then developed of dancing there on the holiday, the last dance being done without bells in memory of the old pub. A new tradition has grown up now, as the owners of the building have for some years now provided us with beer on the day, for which we are very grateful.
After this we move on to the fair itself, now more than 800 years old. For more about Reach Fair, see the Reach web site. |
