May Day 2001

For 2001, we're back to May Day being during the working week. Why is the UK about the only European country not to celebrate May Day officially on the actual day, but always putting the holiday on a Monday?

But one of the good things is that we are able to visit a number of primary schools during the morning, which is always a rewarding experience.

Wandlebury

As usual, we're off to the earthwork at Wandlebury at 5:30. It had been closed for some time because of the foot & mouth outbreak, but had reopened in part in April, and it was enough for us to dance.
And, as usual, we had an audience. A little later on Radio Cambridge came out to interview us as we danced.

Duxford, the Plough

After school, it is normal to repair to a local hostelry for a well-earned cup of tea. This year we went to Duxford, and there met up with our old friends Standon MM who had also been out since the crack of dawn. A dance outside was followed by a musical session inside.
