I've been studying Egypt for 30 years now, and have been working out there regularly since 1979. I was a curator in the British Museum, although in 2006-7 and in the first part of 2008, I was on leave and teaching at the University of Memphis. My research interests vary widely between the Old Kingdom and the Late Period, and my current fieldwork is in Luxor. I got into computing through using IT in research, and I like to think that I'm one of the more computer-literate people in my field of study. Egyptology Resources was the first WWW server set up exclusively for Ancient Egypt.
I'm married to Helen Strudwick who works at the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge.
Egypt does take up a lot of my spare time, often more than I would like; my other great interest is in Morris Dancing. I dance with the Devil's Dyke Morris Men who are based at Reach near Newmarket, and Helen plays the melodeon. We can sometimes be spotted wearing unusual clothes and bells and possibly waving sticks around in streets and pubs in the Cambridge/Suffolk area.
We live in Whaddon, near Royston. We have a cat and a collection of teddy bears of all shapes and sizes. Helen used to have two horses, but they both died in 2005-6. We are both very active in the village; Helen is a member of the PCC, runs the choir and plays the organ, while I am a member of the Parish Council, and currently the chairman.
