DDMM on video

On one Thursday evening--13 July 2000 to be precise--I borrowed a Sony video camera and filmed the DDMM performance at the Star at Lidgate as an experiment to see how easy digital video might be. I left the camera running for the whole 40 minutes of the performance, and then edited it down to four minutes of action, a 74 mb file.

Now even just four minutes of low quality DV without a streaming server is just not on--it would be several megabytes in length and would take an eternity to load on a modem. Thus I have cut it back to a series of stills extracted from the video at two second intervals. So what you see here is a summary of the whole 40 minute show in 15 seconds! The file is just over 600k in length, and should take 2-3 minutes to download on a 56k modem.

Technical stuff: The video was edited on a Macintosh G4 computer using Apple's iMovie software. The still images were extracted and put into this movie using Quicktime Pro version 4.1.2.

Thanks to Nick Reeves for the loan of his camera.
